A few months ago, I was really questioning the value of Twitter. 140 characters -- and no evidence that anyone was paying attention. As I delved into it a little more, I began to see the value of it. I was able to monitor what people were saying about my clients, see who was influential in different areas and use it to start conversations.
But this week, as I was watching CNN's American Morning, I truly became a believer. The Iranian government was restricting the number of broadcasts the network could transmit, trying to control the TV coverage of the protests following the elections. CNN turned to Twitter and YouTube to find out what was happening on the ground. They weren't the only ones. Everyone began to reference Twitter, noting you could follow the posts by searching for #Iranelection
How it ultimately plays out, we won't know for a while. But what is clear is that social media -- and Twitter in particular -- is clearly playing an important role in telling the story and building support.
