It’s the end of an era. WBCN, known for so long as the Rock of Boston, will change formats in early August. Radio stations change formats all the time but very few generate the buzz and media attention. Front page news on the Boston Globe and the Boston Herald. But WBCN was a cultural phenomenon. WBCN’s programming was driven by art first and the business second. Forty years have passed and radio, like other media’s, is very different now. The station will be water cooler talk for many reminiscing about the passing of a friend. Former program director and the artisan behind WBCN appeared on the morning show of long time station competitor WFNX on Wednesday.The interview can be found here.
