After surviving the trauma of a ruptured aneurysm or coping with the diagnosis of a brain aneurysm, many patients find themselves looking for others who share their experience. Recognizing the beneficial role support networks play in recovery, the Brain Aneurysm Foundation has launched an online community for survivors, patients and family members who have been affected by brain aneurysms.

The Brain Aneurysm Foundation Support Community uses social networking to create a virtual, worldwide support group. The community website features member blogs, a forum for discussions, a live chat room to talk with other online members, user-created common interest groups, photo and video sharing, a community events calendar and a news feed that aggregates recent member contributions. Membership to the online community is free.

“Brain aneurysm patients face many physical and emotional challenges during recovery and living with a brain aneurysm can be a distressing experience for patients, family and caregivers,” said Christine Buckley, executive director of the Brain Aneurysm Foundation.  “The Brain Aneurysm Foundation Support Community was designed to bring together individuals who are facing these challenges, providing a forum where they can ask and answer questions, share stories and receive much needed encouragement during a difficult time.”

The Brain Aneurysm Foundation is the nation’s only nonprofit organization solely dedicated to providing critical awareness, education, support, and research funding to reduce the incidence of brain aneurysm ruptures. An estimated 3–6 million people in the U.S. have an unruptured brain aneurysm, a weak bulging on the wall of a brain artery, which can occur at any age. Annually, approximately 25,000 people in the U.S. suffer a ruptured brain aneurysm and of those that survive, only a third will not be impacted by disabilities.
